Danny Bell leaves his Head of Academy Role

By Nigel Sheen
After a long serving stint as Head of our Academy, which culminated in it being recently being awarded Category A status, Danny Bell has decided to relinquish the role.
FTU Academy Chair, Karl Russell, paid tribute to Danny and what he has achieved during his time with Flint.
He said, “It is with great respect and a heavy heart that I officially announce the resignation of Danny Bell from his role as Academy Manager at Flint Town United. After several open and honest conversations over the past couple of weeks, Danny has taken the difficult, and considered, decision to step away from football for the time being, with the full support and understanding of the club.
After over 12 years of continuous service within football—seven of those pivotal years here at Flint Town United—Danny feels it is time to prioritise his health, well-being, and time with family and friends. While we are saddened to see him go, we stand behind his decision and admire the strength it takes to step back from a game that has been such a significant part of his life for over a decade.
Danny’s impact on Flint Town United cannot be overstated. From the moment he joined the club, he brought with him a clear vision, unshakable commitment, and a passion for youth development that has shaped the very fabric of our Academy. At a time when the club was in need of structure and direction, Danny stepped in and led a complete overhaul of our Academy operations. He redefined how we worked with players, staff, and the community, laying down a robust and sustainable foundation that will serve the club for years to come.
Under his leadership, the Academy has grown from a modest programme into one of the most respected in Wales. His efforts brought in not only a new culture of professionalism and accountability, but also tangible success. His drive to improve standards at every level including coaching, facilities, player development, has been relentless.
Arguably Danny’s greatest and most defining achievement came earlier this year when the Academy was officially awarded Category A status—the highest level of accreditation in Welsh football. This monumental milestone is a testament to his tireless work, strategic foresight, and his ability to inspire those around him. Attaining Cat A was not just an accolade; it was the culmination of years of dedication, late nights, and countless hours of planning, delivery, and mentorship. Few truly understand the scale of what it takes to achieve such a status—and Danny did it with humility and grace.
But his legacy goes far beyond awards and structural development. Danny has had a profound personal impact on everyone who has worked with him. He has mentored countless coaches, nurtured the potential of young players, and led by example in everything he did. He was never afraid to make tough decisions when they were needed and always had the long-term benefit of the Academy at heart. He was as invested in the success of others as he was in his own.
Danny has carried himself with immense professionalism and integrity throughout his time here. His work ethic, values, and leadership have left an indelible mark on our club, and it is something we are incredibly proud of. He has not only helped to build a high-performing Academy but has also built lasting relationships and a true sense of community within our footballing environment.
On behalf of the myself, the players, the staff and everyone associated with Flint Town United, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Danny. His contributions will be remembered and appreciated for many years to come.
The door at Flint will always remain open to Danny. Should he ever choose to return to football, in any capacity, we would welcome him back without hesitation. He will always be part of the Flint Town United family.
Danny, thank you for your passion, your loyalty, your leadership, and most importantly, your humanity. We all wish you peace, rest, and happiness in the months ahead—and a well-deserved break. You’ve earned it.”
