Florian Yonsian was Flint’s hat trick hero as they claimed another important 3 points in their battle to keep out of the relegation placings.
An early goal after just 3 minutes soothed any nerves for the home side, and they went on to produce a dominant display against an Aber team who had advanced into the Nathaniel MG Cup just a few days previously.
The opener came from an Aber throw in that was intercepted by Sidi Fofana, who then passed infield to Josh Jones. Jones slipped a cute little ball into the path of Yonsian who coolly slotted home past Dave Jones in the Aber goal.
A couple of minutes later Ben Hughes was played in by Jones, and his effort was scrambled around his near post by the Aber keeper.
The away side fashioned their first chance on 21 minutes, when Jonathan Evans sent in a dangerous ball that flashed across the front of the Flint goal, but no-one was on hand to convert the opportunity. Flint replied when Jones was released by Mikey Burke, and he attempted to chip the keeper, but Jones just got a touch to deflect the ball away.
However, the home side didn’t have long to wait for their second goal. Jake Phillips played the ball down the touchline to Jones, who passed to Yonsian in a central area. The striker used his strength to shield the ball, turn towards goal and hit it right footed inside the post.
Flint continued to press, and Isaac Lee played in Hughes, whose initial thrust towards goal was halted, but he found Burke who attempted a curler that went just the wrong side of the post.
The game was effectively put beyond Aber early in the second half when Flint scored their third. Burke launched a long ball over the defence and found Yonsian, who shrugged off the attentions of Louis Bradford and slotted home past Jones from close range.
The visitors’ chances were few and far between, but they did mount a dangerous counter attack on 59 minutes, when Zac Hartley sprinted forward down the right, and played a nice 1-2 with Niall Flint, before homing in on goal and hitting a shot that Jack Flint did well to parry, the ball going back to the Flint of the Aber variety, who ended up ballooning it over the bar.
A good move with 20 minutes remaining from the home side almost paid dividends. Some great incisive passing saw the ball moved swiftly across the pitch from right to left, finding the advancing Burke on the edge of the area, who hit a stinging shot that Jones did well to keep out.
In the end, it was a comfortable night’s work for the Silkmen, as they climbed back above Briton Ferry into 10th place in the table.
