Jack Thorn and Cameron Ferguson are Flint’s first new signings

By Nigel Sheen
We are delighted to welcome Jack Thorn and Cameron Ferguson to the Essity Stadium, our first new signings of the close season.
Midfielder Jack, who can also operate in the centre of defence, has made the switch from Aberystwyth Town, where he was skipper last season. In welcoming Jack to the club, manager Lee Fowler had this to say, “Jack is a player who I’ve watched since his days with the Wrexham youth team. I’ve tried to sign him each season I’ve been at the club, but never quite managed to get it over the line, so I’m delighted I’ve finally been able to bring him here. He has a lot of qualities that will add to the current team, not least of which he is streetwise, and can practice the dark arts of the game when necessary ! He is also extremely versatile and has a lot of experience for someone who is still only a young player. For example, he was skipper at Aber, and did a good job there in what was a really tough season for them. He also has the benefit of his dad’s knowledge and experience (former Wimbledon player Andy Thorn) from the professional game, and that has helped him mature as a player. Finally, I think the move to Flint will be good for him, as our young fans, whom he teaches in his day job, won’t give him any abuse now !!”
Our second new signing is Cameron Ferguson, a forward who is the son of Everton legend, “Big” Duncan Ferguson. He spent last season with our neighbours Connah’s Quay Nomads, and Fowler had a few opportunities to watch him play at the Essity Stadium with Nomads. He commented “Cam had a bit of a stop, start time at Nomads, with injuries hampering him, and being mainly used as a sub. But the times I saw him come on, he showed promising signs. From chatting with him, his attitude and professionalism stands out, and it’s now my job to get the most out of his ability, and to make sure those glimpses of promise he has showed become regular and frequent parts of his game”
Fowler also promised that there are more signings to come, as he looks to continue to improve his squad. He said “There will be more bodies coming in before we start our pre-season training on June 24th. I’m in constant talks with players daily. But recruiting the right calibre of player and person is key to us. We will wait and offer what we feel is the correct value on players. We won’t be dictated to by various demands or by over paying to try and match other teams. I have very clear principles, and will only recruit players that I believe will deliver value to the club in the market we are competing in”
