We are pleased to announce the latest two additions to our first team squad ahead of the new season.
First up it’s congratulations to Academy Player Ben Hughes, who has successfully made the step up from our U19’s into Lee Fowler’s 1st team squad. Ben has really impressed the gaffer and Fowler had this to say about the young player :
“It’s a great advert for the Academy to see one of their home grown players stepping into the first team. Ben has been with the club for over ten years, so it shows the pathways are there and the transition can be achieved providing you have the dedication and of course the talent. I can safely say that if our Academy players prove themselves good enough, then they will be given the opportunity. and when its given, they have to take it with both hands.
Ben has impressed me with his attitude and ability and has conducted himself in the right manner. And so has earned this right to step up. But he needs to carry on improving and not become complacent as there’s still a long way to go in his football education. I look forward to getting to know him better and watch him grow and develop both as a footballer and as a young man.”
Our second signing is Omar Ibrahim, a player whom Fowler signed when he was at Radcliffe, after he had impressed in a trial game. The 22 year old is a versatile player, who can play centre or left side midfield or as a left wing back. Prior to joining Radcliffe, Omar played for Norrvalla FF in Finland.
Fowler commented, “Omar will be a good addition to the club as he can play in a number of positions and his physical output will be one the highest in the league. He is humble and willing learn and most importantly, from my point of view, he is coachable. We just need to work with him to polish up on a few things that will help him improve his game”
Welcome to Omar on his arrival at the Essity, and congratulations to Ben (pictured) on his promotion to the first team squad, a wonderful achievement and testament to all his hard work in coming through the ranks of our Academy.
