Match Preview : Airbus v Flint, 30/08/22, 7-45pm

By Nigel Sheen
Tonight sees us play our first game of the season in Flintshire when we make the short journey to Airbus. The newly promoted Wingmakers are still chasing their first win of the season, and will no doubt be determined to try and get their first points on the board this evening. They include two of last season’s Flint squad within their ranks, Jake Phillips and Dan Roberts.
Back for Flint tonight will be skipper Jay Owen, who missed out on Saturday through suspension.
As this game represents the first opportunity for many Flint fans to see the team in competitive action this season, we’re hoping as many as possible will come out and support the Silkmen. Kick off at the Airfield is 7-45pm.

Lee Fowler gave us his thoughts on both tonight’s game and last Saturday’s :
“Tonight sees us play in our first Flintshire derby of the season, with both teams looking to claim the 3 points. If any team, or players, are looking too much at the table after three games, then they are very naive. It’s way too early, and there are no clear patterns as yet. A couple of wins can catapult you right up the league, and a couple of losses can push you in the opposite direction.
Airbus have some good players and will be right up for the game, as we will be.
After watching the game back v Penybont, I thought we were too reactive, and not pro active, for a 15 minute spell in the second half. And we were half a yard off in each of the key moments in the game.
That’s the fine margins that win and lose games, and credit to Penybont for taking advantage. But these are the things that can coached and worked on with the players.
That’s how close that game was from turning a loss into a draw/win. We had some good chances and you would expect one to maybe hit the back of the net as Okera, Larnell , Harry Owen’s header and Jayden Major all went close.

We will be holding an open training session on Thursday from 6 pm till 8 pm. It would be great to welcome the fans there, and they can watch the session first hand and also meet the players/staff and catch a glimpse of the new pitch”
