Meet Alex Morgan, our new Community Coach

By Nigel Sheen
Our Social Media Editor, Chris Parry, interviews Alex Morgan, who was recently appointed to the role of Football in the Community coach.

Hi Alex, firstly, welcome to Flint Town United. As our new Community Coach, what are your first impressions of the club?
“Hi Chris. First impressions are that it’s a close knit, well organised club with a lot of ambition for growth”

Tell us a little bit about you…
“So I was born and raised in Welshpool. Always had a passion for football and played since I was very young. Moved to Chester in 2022 to begin my Sports coaching degree to further my knowledge and begin my career path in an area of more opportunities”

What can you tell us about your football playing background?
“I grew up playing for Shrewsbury Town and Welshpool as a junior player. As an adult I’ve had experience in the Welsh Leagues having played for Forden United and Welshpool Town as well as going through the ranks at Newtown in their youth programme from U13-U19. While at uni I’ve been playing for Sutton Rangers in Ellesmere Port”

What is your coaching background?
“I began volunteering and doing part time coaching at 16 whilst back in Welshpool. Since being in Chester I have mainly coached in early years but have recently started coaching grassroots and academy level players through 1to1 and small group sessions.”

What can you bring to the role of Community Coach?
“I am looking to bring fresh and unique ideas. I’m hoping to create strong relationships with colleagues and members of the community to help the development of individuals. I am passionate about giving everyone the building blocks to achieve and develop themselves through football and sport.”

What are your goals and targets whilst at Flint?
“My goals are to continue my personal development and progression as a coach, collaborating with different coaches and people who work at the club. I want to create a strong network between the club and the people of Flint and the surrounding area. And to provide a caring and supporting environment for the community and give as many opportunities as possible for people to get involved with the club”

How important, in your opinion, is engaging with the community?
“The community engagement is a crucial part of my role at the club. It will help to build trust and give people a sense of belonging at the club. So, by actively engaging with the community we will encourage people to participate and collaborate at the club. It helps to build strong relationships with people from all backgrounds with a common interest. And like I mentioned early, will help to create a caring and supportive environment for everyone to feel involved.”
