Everyone connected to the football club was very sorry to hear the extremely sad news that George Thelwell passed away over the weekend. George had been a tremendous friend and supporter of Flint Town United over many years, helping the club both on and off the pitch. He was always there offering a sponsorship when required, he helped with work down the ground and would often lend us a mini bus for travel to away games. He was particularly active during the period that Paul Davies was manager, and through his experience of managing Halkyn would regularly go and keep tabs on players that “Davis” was interesting in signing. And as Davis recalls, “George was always good for a few bob when we were struggling financially to get players”. He also fondly remembers the many happy nights spent at George’s bar in his Flint Mountain home with many of the old players, especially when celebrating a big win for the team.
George passed away peacefully at home with his family after suffering a long illness, and our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family at this difficult time. But rest assured George will always have a special place in the heart of Flint Town United FC.
