A deal was completed to bring in goalkeeper Rhys Williams from Gresford Athletic on Friday, meaning he was able to go straight into the team for Saturday’s opening match at Denbigh. Rhys is a former Welsh U19 international, and he has plenty of experience and has played for a number of clubs in England and Wales, including Cefn Druids, Airbus UK Broughton, Connah’s Quay Nomads, Colchester United U21, Carlisle United U18.
Flint manager Lee Fowler told us how the signing of Rhys came about : “We had agreed a deal for a goalkeeper to join from England, but with the clock ticking for Saturday’s game as we were still awaiting international clearance to come through, so we decided to move to bring in Rhys. We were always going to be looking for another keeper as competition for that number one shirt anyway, and Rhys fits the bill exactly. On Saturday, I thought he was calm, assured and kicked well and he also has a lot of experience at the level we are playing at, which is key.”
