Welcome to our latest signing, Jay Owen

By Nigel Sheen
We are delighted to announce that Jay Owen is joining Lee Fowler’s squad at the Essity. Jay will be reunited with his former Nomads teammate Danny Harrison, with whom he forged such a successful partnership whilst at the Quay.
After spending six successful years at Connah’s Quay, Jay announced he was leaving in May, and initially joined his hometown club, Caernarfon Town. However, following a change of heart, he asked to be released from his contract and Caernarfon have obliged, allowing him to join Flint.
During his time at the Nomads, Jay clocked up almost 160 appearances, winning the JD Cymru Premier, Welsh Cup and the NMG League Cup. He was also named as the Players’ Player and Coaches’ Player of the Season for the 2016/17 season.
Jay started out at Chester where he made seven Football League appearances and represented Wales at Under-17 level. He then moved to Barrow where he made 95 appearances in the Conference and was capped for Wales Under-23 semi-pros. He played for Airbus between 2013 and 2016, before moving to the Deeside Stadium.
Primarily a central midfielder, Jay can also comfortably fill in at centre back.
Lee Fowler had this to say about his latest signing, “I’m delighted to sign Jay, and I would like to thank the Chairman and the Board for getting this deal over the line, especially as it involved a small fee being paid.
Jay will add massive experience and value to us, and with him missing so much football last season he will be ready and itching to get back playing again. The relationship he already has with Danny Harrison in terms of them knowing one another’s game so well should be key for us.
This won’t be the last signing we are hoping to make, expect a couple more before next weekend. I’m aiming for a 20 man squad, and I’m pleased to say that five of our Under 19’s from last season will also be included. We have already announced Ben Hughes has been given a full contract, well in addition to him, Joe Davis has also been awarded a contract, and Liam Ellis, Halrley Brindley-Peagram and Aiden Johnson have also made it into the senior squad.”
