Former Colwyn Bay manager, Steve Evans, has joined as Assistant Manager to Lee Fowler. “Evo” played for The New Saints for much of his career, and in 2008 was the first non-league footballer since 1930 to be capped by Wales. He also spent 3 years at his home town club, Wrexham, before returning to TNS.
After hanging up his boots, Evo joined the TNS coaching staff in 2017 becoming assistant to Scott Ruscoe. In January 2022, he was appointed first team manager at Colwyn Bay, guiding them into the Cymru Premier for season 2023/24. Following their relegation at the end of last season, he left the club.
Upon joining Flint, Steve had this to say. “I’m thrilled to be joining Flint Football Club and teaming up with Lee, whom I’ve known for quite some time. This opportunity not only allows me to stay connected to the game but also offers a rare chance to swiftly re-enter football following my time at Colwyn Bay.
Although I’m still ambitious of becoming a manager in the future, I see this as a fantastic opportunity for both myself and Flint. I’ll be coming in to provide assistance to Lee and with my extensive experience in the Welsh Premier League, I’m confident I can bring valuable knowledge and a positive attitude to the club.
I can’t wait to dive in and get started! “
Lee Fowler welcomed Steve to the club, saying “I’ve known Evo for a long time, and he is someone I trust. He will add massive value, firstly to myself, and also to the players and to the club as a whole. I am well aware that he has the drive and ambition to be a manager again, and we will cross that bridge when we come to it, at some point in the future. But both parties are well aware of the situation, and honesty and transparency are key from the off. In the meantime, I’m greatly looking forward to working with him and seeing what he will bring to the club”
